REGISTRATION

Q: Can I register after January 1?

A: Yes, people can register any time up until the Challenge ends.

Q: Should I sign up for losing weight or exercise?

A: This depends on your personal goals. However most participants raise more food for their benefiting hunger-relief organization through exercise. About one-third of participants signed up for weight loss switch to exercise.

Q: Can I register as a family?

A: You can create a team that is a family, but each member of the team must register separately. Registration requires an email address. If you need an email address, request an additional email account from your Internet service provider or sign up for a free email account at a website like Google.

Q: Can I register a private team that nobody else can join?

A: No, all teams are accessible to the public.

Q: I'm already registered with my email address and now need to register someone else. Can I use the same email address for the additional registration?

No, your Million Pound Challenge account is linked to your email address because we send you email reminders. If you need to register another person, request an additional email account from your Internet service provider or sign up for a free email account at a website like Google.

Q: Will I get reminder emails so I remember to enter my exercise or weight loss?

A: Yes, if you opt in during the registration process, you will receive the reminder emails. The reminders are sent every Thursday while the program is in effect. You should record your exercise hours or weight on Thursday for the previous week.

A reporting week runs from Friday morning through Thursday night.

If you think you're not receiving the reminder emails, check your spam folder. These emails are generated by a computer not a human being, so your email host may be filtering them out. We do our best to ensure this doesn't happen. As an alternative, you can also create a reminder through your phone, email, appointment book or wall calendar.

Q: Can I unsubscribe from getting the email reminders?

A: Yes, you can login to your account and change that preference there to not get the reminder emails anymore.

Q: Do I have to be a member of the Princeton Club to participate in the Million Pound Challenge?

A: No, you do not need to belong to any gym though this can help you achieve your exercise or weight loss goals. You can work out at home.

Q: Can I sign up for both exercising and losing weight?

A: You choose either exercise or weight loss but not both.

Q: Is there a cost to participate in the Million Pound Challenge?

A: No, it is free to participate!

Q: Will there be an official weigh-in for my weight loss or method to prove my exercise hours?

A: No, the Million Pound Challenge operates on the honor system. You will report your exercise hours or weight loss by logging into the account you create.

Q: What is the maximum amount of exercise or weight that can be recorded by a single participant in a week?

A: There is no maximum amount that can be reported. Report your full progress for the week. Do not report weight that you lost or exercise that you completed outside of the period of January 1 - April 30, 2017.

Q: It appears after a Team Captain registers a team that each team member must create an individual account. Do we track our exercise hours or weight loss individually or as a group total?

A: The Team Captain and the members of the team will individually log into their accounts and record their exercise hours or weight loss each week. The total pounds of food donated will display as one number for the whole team.

Q: Are my individual results confidential or will my name and results be published?

A: Your name and personal results will not be displayed on the public website. If you are on a team, your Team Captain has access to the name, email address, challenge type (exercise or weight loss) and hunger-relief beneficiary for each member (although they cannot change anything). The Team Captain does not have access the individual weight loss and exercise results of team members.

Q: Can I switch from weight loss to exercise hours or vice versa?

We'll remove your account and have you re-register, choosing the challenge type that you want. If you want this done faster, please state in the email that you understand your account will need to be deleted - if not, we'll first have to email you asking if you understand this.

Q: I pledged to lose 12 pounds, so why does it say I'm going to lose 120 pounds?

A: The 12 pounds is your goal, and for each 1 pound of weight you lose, 10 pounds is donated. 12 multiplied by 10 equals 120 pounds.

 

TEAMS

Q: What happened to Group/Organization and K-12 School teams?

A: Any group, organization or school is welcome to join the Million Pound Challenge as a team! All teams compete in the Teams Competition.

Each person who wants to join a team registers themselves, chooses between exercise or weight loss, selects a hunger-relief beneficiary and reports their results weekly through their own personal reporting page. For K-12 schools, this means your staff, students and their families can all get involved on the same team!

This will level the playing field for all teams and allow the total pounds available for donation to be spread amongst more hunger-relief organizations.

Q: Does the Team Captain select the team's hunger-relief beneficiary?

A: No, the Team Captain doesn't select the beneficiary. Each team member selects their desired beneficiary from the list available when they set up their account. A 10-member team could have 10 different beneficiaries. The purpose of a team is to enjoy the comradery and support to achieve one's personal exercise or weight loss goals while still being able to individually designate the hunger-relief organization with which each team member has the greatest affinity.

Q: Does the Team Captain enter the team's pledge to donate a certain number of pounds of food?

A: No, the Team Captain creates the team, then joins the team personally and then invites prospective participants to also join. Each team member pledges the number of exercise hours they wish to complete in a week or pounds of weight they hope to lose by the end of the challenge. These amounts are totaled and become the team's pledge amount which is displayed on the Teams page.

Q: Does a Team Captain enter each participant's results on a weekly basis or do they do that individually?

A: Each participant enters their own exercise hours or weight loss for the week using the account they created when joining the team.

Q: A team was created after I registered. Can I join that team?

A: Yes, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , using the email address with which you registered your account, stating the team name to which you'd like to switch.

Q: How can I see who is on my team?

A: The Team Captain (person who started the team) can view the name, email address, challenge type (exercise or weight loss) and hunger-relief beneficiary for each team member. They do not have access the individual weight loss and exercise results of team members.

If you created a team using one email account and then used a different email account to join that team, you won't be the Team Captain. You must use the same email address for both in order to be the Team Captain. Email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Q: If duplicate teams are created, are you doing clean up?

A: Yes, if you created or joined a team with a name similar to another team, you may have noticed that you've been moved to a different team.

Q: Why isn't my team showing up right away? I just registered it and do not see it.

A: The Teams page updates every hour since it has to calculate statistics. Check back a little later.

 

HUNGER-RELIEF BENEFICIARIES

Q: My local hunger-relief organization isn't on the list. Can it be added?

A: The Million Pound Challenge benefits Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin and its emergency food pantry partners. For a hunger-relief organization to be included in the campaign, ALL of the following criteria must be met:

  1. The hunger-relief organization is located in one of these 16 southwestern Wisconsin counties: Adams, Dane, Dodge, Columbia, Crawford, Grant, Green, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Lafayette, Monroe, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Vernon.
  2. The hunger-relief organization is a partner agency of Second Harvest Foodbank which is defined as holding a 501(c)(3) tax status determined by the Internal Revenue Service; having a current agency agreement on file with Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin; and adhering to charitable food distribution guidelines put forth by Second Harvest Foodbank.
  3. The Second Harvest Foodbank partner agency must be an emergency, community-based food pantry that is open to the public.
  4. The Second Harvest Foodbank emergency food pantry partner must have been a partner agency as of December 7, 2016.

If your pantry is not a beneficiary, you still can participate to benefit Second Harvest Foodbank or a neighboring pantry.

Q: Is it possible for my team to designate several different hunger-relief organizations to receive our donated food?

A: Yes, each team member selects their desired beneficiary from the list available when they set up their account. A 10-member team could have 10 different beneficiaries. The purpose of a team is to enjoy the comradery and support to achieve one's personal exercise or weight loss goals while still being able to individually designate the hunger-relief organization with which each team member has the greatest affinity.

Q: Can I change my hunger-relief beneficiary?

A: Please thoughtfully select your desired hunger-relief organization in advance of registering for the challenge. View hunger-relief beneficiary list which is sortable by city and county.

If you must change your beneficiary, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Please provide the exact name of the beneficiary (found here). All requests to change beneficiaries must come from the account holder’s email. They will not be honored if they come from anyone else (even the Team Captain).

All results you reported before the account change will be donated to your first beneficiary. For how the donations are distributed, it is not possible to reallocate these donations to your new beneficiary.

 

USERNAMES AND PASSWORDS

Q: I tried to reset my username and password and it did not work.

A: Copy and paste your username and the password you were sent - it's case sensitive and you might think the letter "l" is the number "1" or something like that. Do not try to type it in manually because if you make an error, it will not work. If you do not know how to copy and paste, click on How to Copy and Paste for instructions.

Q: I can't remember my password. What should I do?

A: You can request that your password be sent to you on this page.


REPORTING EXERCISE OR WEIGHT LOSS

Q: What constitutes a single week of the challenge?

A: For the 2017 Challenge, a reporting week runs from Friday morning through Thursday night.

Q: Will I get reminder emails so I remember to enter my exercise or weight loss?

A: Yes, if you opt in during the registration process, you will receive the reminder emails. The reminders are sent every Thursday while the program is in effect. You should record your exercise hours or weight on or before Thursday for the current week.

Q: I missed reporting my exercise or weight loss for a previous week. Can I still enter it?

A: Yes, as long as you were signed up as a challenge participant for the week in question, you can report it. So if you missed reporting your results for a previous week, add the amount to the total you report for the current week's reporting. Reporting each week is strongly encourage to keep up the momentum of the challenge and so your benefitting hunger-relief organization has access to more food more quickly.
